The Dakshin Bharat Jain Organization was founded in 1899. Originally, it represented the Jains of the southern Maratha country of Bombay Presidency, including the state of Kolhapur, Belgaum and Sangli. The organization was established for the socio-economic and educacirummy 786onal improvement of the Jain community. It was credited with promoting a stronger sense of Jain identity and with ushering in social reforms in the Jain community. The organization was involved in securing independent and minority religion status for Jainism in India. The organization funds several educational institutions.
